Born in Cleveland, OH, Carlos worked as an IT administrator for Huston Lumber in Watchung. He was known for his love of the outdoors, especially riding ATVs.

Above all, Carlos had an endless passion for helping others, as well as spending time with his family members and many close friends.

“He just loved to be of help to others and had a huge heart,” reads his obituary. “He was always smiling, laughing and was just all around happy.”

Carlos is survived by his loving wife, Jamie Mendez; his son, Juan Carlos Mendez; his daughter, Isabella Mendez; his two dogs Aura and Anubis; his older brother, Elvin Mendez; his younger brother Alex Mendez; a younger sister, Tania Mendez, and many more.

Meanwhile, more than $18,400 had been raised on a GoFundMe for Carlos’ final expenses as of Thursday, Sept. 14.

“Carlos was always the guy helping everyone,” reads the campaign. “Unfortunately, this accident has left his family and friends speechless over this tragic loss.”

An update on Sunday, Sept. 10 thanked all who had contributed to the fundraiser and stated that Carlos’ celebration of life would be held at Tiptons Tavern in Belvidere on Saturday, Sept. 23. Guests were being asked to bring their favorite photo of Carlos to share.

“The way everyone came to his/our side when we needed it because of your love for him/us would have brought him to tears,” reads the update.

“He was an amazing man that touched so many people with his infectious energy and kindness not only in life, but now in death too.”
